MiniSound Free

Posted: June 17, 2011 in MiniSound

I’ve released a freemium version of the MiniSound app
It’s exactly the same as the paid version except it has an advert at the bottom of the screen and it uses the Internet permission to provide that advert.

My wife and I have two lovely girls. My wife likes to record them.

Her new phone, a Sony Ericsson x10 mini, doesn’t have a sound recorder.

MiniSound was born out of a need for a simple sound recorder for my wife.

  • Press the button to record.
  • Press the button to stop.
  • Tap the recording to play.
  • Tap the recording to stop.
  • Long press the recording to rename, delete and share.

Dosh Updated to 1.4.1

Posted: April 7, 2011 in Dosh

I was chatting with a fellow android developer when he told me about an issue he was having with dialogs. His investigations had highlighted problems using dialogs when allowing the screen orientation to change. I thought to myself I’ll check my app for that issue. Doh! I’d fallen foul of the same issue.

This update fixes the bug with the dialogs for processing repeating transactions and generating a future balance coupled with a screen rotation. There is also a minor text change on one of the dialogs.

I’m working on a couple of other features which I hope to have finished shortly.

Thanks for your support.

I wasn’t quite comfortable with the last release and I should have listened to my instincts…

I discovered a bug in the future balance feature of Dosh 1.2. The feature generated an erroneous balance where a repeating transaction had never created a new transaction i.e. a repeating transaction with a start date in the future.

Version 1.2.1 disabled the future balance feature.

Version 1.3 re-enabled the feature with the bug fixed.

Sorry any inconvenience caused.

Future Balance Feature

Posted: March 24, 2011 in Dosh

It’s been a while since I updated Dosh.

The new version contains a future balance feature which will calculate the balance for a date in the future based on the current balance plus all of your repeating transaction up to that date.

The future balance feature is accessed via a context menu (long press) on the account list

On selecting the generate future balance item you will asked to select a date for you future balance.

Touching the date field will display a date picker.

Choose a date and click set. The date picker will disappear and the date selected will be displayed. Click Go and it will generate the balance for you displaying a progress dialog. When complete the result will be displayed.

That’s all there is to it. Hopefully you’ll find it useful.

I’ve also done some work around the date formatting i.e. it should display dates based on your locale in short format e.g. dd/mm/yyyy for UK etc.

I’d like to introduce Dosh. A simple expense tracking app for android. I’ve always been a bit crap at managing my money so I’ve tried lots of ways to keep a track of how much I’m spending. Dosh allows me to do this very simply.

When you first open Dosh you will see the following screen.

Adding a new account couldn’t be simpler. Touch the New Account button. You should see the following.

Saving will list the account in the account list which can then be selected.

Once selected the transaction list will be displayed which will, of course be empty. The current account balance will be displayed at the top in red for debit or green for credit.

Touching new transaction will display a form to enter transaction details as shown below.

Saving the transaction will adjust the balance and add the transaction to the transaction list. Below is a list of transactions.

Pressing menu will allow you to gain access to the repeating transactions list which is shown after some repeating transactions have been created.

Touching New Repeat Transaction will display the repeat transaction form to allow you to create a repeating transaction.

The date of the repeating transaction defines the first date on which the transaction will be created. The repeating transaction can have the following frequencies

Repeating transactions are processed when Dosh is opened or by pressing menu on the Accounts list.

The app uses two permissions, sd card usage to install to external card if available and the internet for adverts.

Anyway, I hope you find it useful.

Features to be included soon are

  • Password protection.
  • Import/export.
  • Backup/Restore of data.
